Goal- By 2030, Sweden is an international pioneer with circular material flows underpinning successful companies, and is actively driving the global circular transformation. - By 2040, the circular economy has fundamentally changed society and enabled value creation without the need for finite raw materials.
Development of market and regulationsCircular Sweden drives technological development, consumer behavior and policy forward in 4 pillars of the circular economy: circular design, sustainable consumption, increased access to and utilization of recycled materials, and circular value chains. In 2019, Circular Sweden has concentrated its efforts primarily on the value chains of plastics, textiles and building materials.
MembersCircular Sweden consists of members with the opportunity to influence major material flows or who are engaged in ambitious efforts to implement circularity. Axfood, Coca-Cola European Partners, H&M, Houdini, IKEA, NCC, Spendrups Brewery, SSAB, Tarkett and the Recycling Industries jointly run the Circular Sweden corporate forum.
Expected outcomes 2030By 2030, Sweden serves as a model internationally for the successful implementation of circular material flows in industry and is an active driver of the transition to a circular economy globally. The loss of value in Sweden's material flows has been halved. A measure of circularity has been developed and applied in the private and public sector. A consensus and standardization of circular concepts have been created, enabling a more efficient transition. Sweden has passed clear legislation enabling companies to own their waste, take responsibility for their value chain and circulate a larger share of their material more profitably. Recycled raw materials, including from biomaterials, are competitive with virgin materials and are in high demand. Consumers and purchasers push for recycled, renewable and recyclable raw materials in products and material flows.
ActivitiesCircular Sweden invites businesses, policymakers and researchers to discuss obstacles and opportunities for more circular material flows. The activities include roundtable conversations, seminars, reports and media activities. Internal workshops and strategy meetings aim to create synergies, disseminate good examples and find common pathways for companies to create more circular material flows.
